The Calm Raft for Adults

WHEN AND WHERE

The Calm Raft for adults takes place once a week from 7pm – 8.30pm at 

The Cwtch Hub Cafe, 17 Union Street, Newton Abbot. TQ12 2JX

 

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE CALM RAFT

The focus of our adult group is to create a weekly opportunity to totally switch off and make calm and wellbeing your top priority for 90 minutes.  Our aim is is to help you to leave each session feeling really relaxed and comfortable.  As well as feeling as if you have had a reset after each session, you are given the opportunity to explore nsure you are able to explore simple changes that you can incorporate into your day to day life that will significantly decrease your stress levels and increase your day to day enjoyment of of life!   In order to achieve this, we keep to the following structure each week, but the activities themselves are different each week to keep things fun!

CONNECT

Spending time with likeminded people and feeling as if you belong is such an important part of wellbeing.  Regardless of whether you have a close-knit community or not outside of the Calm Raft, please come along knowing that while you are at the Calm Raft you can be yourself and you belong.  You are welcome just as you are!

CURIOSITY

Each week we take short excerpts from the best books on wellbeing and personal growth and read and discuss them in small groups of 2 or 3 at tables around the café.  Discussion questions are provided and you can choose which book/topic you fancy joining in with OR if you don’t want to join in, you can go and do some mindful creative activities on a separate table.  The main thing is that you feel comfortable, so you can choose what works for you but sitting and discussing in a group is a great way to get to know people, think about how you can best look after your wellbeing and it is fun!  

CALM

We finish each session with a cosy and relaxing meditation, usually to live music by our very own singer and acoustic guitarist, Lydia. Don’t worry if you have never tried meditation – you will be talked through how to use your breath and the music to become calm and cosy. Most people will be sitting up for the mediation but you are welcome to bring a yoga mat if you prefer to lie down.  It is a good idea to bring your own blanket too as the body temperature has a funny way of dropping as you relax into meditation! The meditation is about 15 – 20 minutes long and will leave you feeling very relaxed and ready to face the week.

PAYMENT

Your first session is FREE!  After that payment is £6.00 per session and you can pay when you arrive either by card or cash if you have the correct amount!  To pay by card, bring your phone and we will give you a QR code to scan which will enable you to make the payment.  Please arrive 10 minutes before the start of the session to ensure you can pay before the start.  

The cost of each session is £6.00 per person which includes any extra resources that are needed or given as part of the session when appropriate.  If you can treat yourself to a cup of something or a slice of cake (or both!) to support the café, that would be appreciated as they are staying open late and giving us exclusive use of their premises!
